Flowers for Algernon ( Question 8 )

Charlie didn't know he was fool to his friends because he wasn't so smart. But he was happy to having friends who always laughing at him. After the test, he got smarter, he relized that to his friends he was a joke. He started to feel bad and fooled. Same thing to Eve. She didn't know she was naked before she ate from the tree of knowledge. After eating it, she got smater and she saw she was naked. She can no longer live happy with Adam in the Eden Garden.

The similarity between Charlie's experiences and Eve are: THey thought they could live happier when they got smart. But they both dissapointed after they got what they wanted.

  1. I like they way you compare Charlie's experience with Eve's experience. it is true that Charlie and Eve both want to become smarter. to be smarter, Eve eats the apple in the eden garden. And Charlie, he takes the operation, just because he wants to be smarter. The last statement, i also have a same thinking like you: THey thought they could live happier when they got smart. But they both dissapointed after they got what they wanted.

  2. Good Selena. You got it. Charlie's experience is just like Eve's. Both characters also felt shame when they gained knowledge. Do you think that these stories are saying that knowledge causes shame?

@Mr.Patrick: I don't think knowledge causes shame. IT's just they both realized something that they didnot know before and I think the stories are trying to tell us that to get something you've to pay for it( you'll lose something)
